Beneath the surface – how many and who wishes to leave their home countries to move to the EU and Sweden?

Who are the people who want to move to Sweden and where do they come from? What trends can we see in the propensity to migrate in low-income countries over time? How can migration propensity data be used to predict future potential migration trends? These are some of the questions that will be discussed at a seminar organized by Delmi on Friday 21 April.

According to the Gallup World Poll, approximately 10 million people from low-income countries want to move to Sweden if given the opportunity. But who are these people, from which countries do they come and what is the demographic composition of these people?

The purpose of this report is to identify the propensity to migrate to Sweden from LMI countries, see who it is that wishes to move to Sweden and what these groups look like. Furthermore, the report discusses how factors such as propensity to migrate can be used in forecasts of future migration flows. The study uses data from the Gallup World Poll (GWP), a worldwide annual survey covering 160 countries and 99% of the world's population.
