Terms of reference

A knowledge-based policy is required in order to benefit fully from the positive opportunities offered by migration, and to avoid its negative side-effects. A policy founded upon well-functioning legal frameworks that protect the individual migrant while ensuring that migration is well-organised can facilitate both integration and mutually beneficial development. In response to this requirement the Swedish Government established the Migration Studies Delegation - Delmi - in November 2013.

Delmi was established in in November 2013 and commissioned, in accordance with its terms of reference (2013:102), to:

contribute with a more solid base for migration policy decisions and the structure of future migration policy;
increase the analysis and evaluation capacity in Sweden within the area of migration, as well as the possibilities to utilise relevant research results; and
contribute to the public debate by spreading knowledge and information on migration issues to the public, media and non-governmental organisations.
