We interviewed Kamiran Shivan Othman, Director of Programs at Rwanga Foundation, in the city of Erbil, in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Rwanga Foundation is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that implements projects and initiatives throughout Iraq across four main sectors: education, youth, environment, and vulnerable groups. When it comes to migration, Rwanga aims to facilitate the sustainable and long-term reintegration of Iraqi returnees into their home communities through, for example, a collaborative initiative funded by the Danish government entitled Empowering Sustainable Livelihoods. In this interview, Othman reflects on the role that civil societies play when it comes to decisions related to migration, either for returnees having returned to their home communities, or for potential migrants considering legal migration pathways.
