How do entrepreneurs in vulnerable areas assess the impact of crime on their business operations and personal safety?

A prerequisite for a good business climate is that entrepreneurs feel safe in their environment and can focus on their business operations without fear of being subjected to various types of crime. In this way, crime can complicate, increase the cost of, and hinder business operations, which can result in unfair competition, loss of income, and psychological suffering for the entrepreneurs who are victims of crime. In the long run, it can also pose a threat to essential societal functions and growth.

By taking an interdisciplinary approach, entrepreneurs in vulnerable areas will be studied to assess how they perceive that crime affects their business operations and personal safety. Anna Thoursie, Ph.D. in Economics, is the lead author, and the project is co-financed by Ratio.
