Maria Cheung holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Stockholm University. She has worked with micro empirical research and impact evaluations at the Swedish Public Employment Service and the Swedish Tax Agency, been at the Ministry of Employment and in government investigations. Among other things, she has made cost calculations of human trafficking and exploitation, carried out gender analysis on migrants’ labour market integration and estimated (unexplained) wage differences from intersectional perspective and by the length of stay in Sweden. A consistent theme has been to use quantitative methods to answer important social questions and to assist with evidence-based knowledge. She has also been an evaluation expert for the World Bank and SIPRI, as well as a teacher in empirical methods at Stockholm University.
