Pinar holds a PhD in social work and defended her dissertation in Umeå University in 2019. Her research focuses on how descendants of immigrants in Sweden have experienced opportunities and obstacles in their labour market entrance and - participation, and on influences of labour market conditions, the family of origin, public officials and respondents’ views of work, gender, and family. She has also looked at immigrants’ work environment in Sweden, focusing on physical- and psychosocial health risks in their workplace.
