Migration dynamics are increasingly shaped by structural economic and environmental pressures. This policy brief therefore examines how climate-related factors, such as water scarcity, rising temperatures, and agricultural disruption, interact with economic vulnerability and limited labour synergies in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI). These dynamics contribute to migration as a coping strategy for households facing declining livelihoods.
This policy brief aims to synthesis existing reports on the topic produced by Vision Foundation for Strategic Studies (VFSS), an NGO in the Sulaimani Governorate in the KRI, through examining the complex interactions between climate stress, economic vulnerability, and migration in Iraq and the KRI.
The policy brief’s author is Dr. Didar Abdulkarim Rahim, Director of Studies at VFSS.
