The current Swedish government has prioritized the return of individuals without legal residency in Sweden. However, implementing return decisions remains challenging, particularly for those unwilling to leave. While numerous studies have explored these difficulties, the perspective of the countries of origin—especially the role their authorities play in readmitting nationals—has been largely overlooked.

This new report, authored by Constanza Vera Larrucea, PhD, and Iris Luthman, MA, delves into the tools available for cooperation with foreign authorities on return and readmission, with a focus on the critical role embassies play. The findings highlight key challenges and offer practical recommendations for enhancing collaboration between Swedish authorities and diplomatic missions.

The seminar will explore the political and operational implications of this cooperation.
